SUBSTANCE: invention relates to encoding and decoding images. Disclosed is method of last position information encoding, indicating last non-zero coefficient position in predetermined order in current unit, which must be encoded. Method includes stage, on which last position information is converted into binary form to generate binary signal, which includes signal prefix part having length less or equal to preset maximum length, and does not include signal or binary signal suffix part, which includes signal prefix part having preset maximum length, and signal suffix part. Method includes stage of each of binary symbols arithmetic encoding, included into signal prefix part, using context switched among plurality of contexts in accordance with binary symbol bit position.

EFFECT: technical result is increase in video encoding/decoding efficiency due to last position information arithmetic encoding/decoding.
