SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of video decoding. The method of processing video data comprises performing the video decoding process, comprising: determining the highest desired temporary identifier by determining whether it has been set by an external means; if the target highest temporary identifier is not set and if the decoding process is invoked in the bitstream compliance test, a test operating point is chosen and the target highest temporary identifier is set equal to the largest temporal identifier present in the bit substream corresponding to the tested operating point, or the target highest temporal identifier is set equal to the value of the syntax element setting the maximum number of temporal sub-levels in the bitstream; performing the extraction process of the bitstream comprising the removal of all the units of the network abstraction level (NAL) with temporal identifiers exceeding the target highest temporal identifier; and decoding the bitstream NAL units.

EFFECT: invention provides more efficient video data decoding.
