FIELD: electrical communication engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of encoding / decoding video data. Method for processing video data comprises: receiving a video parameter set (VPS) and a sequence parameter set (SPS), wherein the VPS comprises a plurality of syntax parameter structures of a hypothetical reference decoder (HRD), containing the corresponding HRD parameter sets, wherein the VPS further includes syntax elements indicating a corresponding set of level identifiers for the corresponding syntax structure of the HRD parameters, and the SPS contains the syntax structure of the HRD parameters containing the HRD parameter set; selection of a HRD parameter set applicable to a particular operation point, wherein the HRD parameter set in the syntax structure of the HRD parameter set in the SPS is applicable to said particular operation point based that, the set of level identifiers of this particular operation point is identical to the set of all level identifiers present in the bitstream, which is tested with a bit stream matching test; and performing an HRD operation using the selected HRD parameter set.

EFFECT: technical result is a reduction in the expenditure of computing resources.
