SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the method for preparation of 1,3-bis- and 1,4-bis (4,5-di [thiophen-3-yl]-1H-imidazol-2-yl)benzenes of the general formula (1)

where R=CH3 (1a, 1c); R=Cl (1b, 1d), which comprises six-hour refluxing of the corresponding 1,2-ditieniletan-1,2-diones of formula (2)
,
where R=CH3 (2a); R=Cl (2b) with terephthalic or isophthalic aldehydes in acetic acid in the presence of a tenfold excess of ammonium acetate.
EFFECT: compounds can be used for synthesis of photoswitchable structures for sensor technology, optical memory devices, photochromic fluorescent materials.
