FIELD: agriculture.
SUBSTANCE: to assess the humus concentration in chernozem soil samples by the petromagnetic method, soil samples are selected in the arable horizon, in which the magnetic susceptibility value kref is determined. Thereinafter the samples are heated to 550°C and, after their cooling down, the magnetic susceptibility value kheat is re-determined. The increment ratio of the magnetic susceptibility value kt is calculated by the formula kt=kheat/kref, wherein the humus content is assessed as directly proportional to the kt ratio.
EFFECT: fast and accurate method for quantitative assessment of humus in the soil.
