FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the method for converting hydrocarbons comprising the following steps: (a) providing the first mixture comprising ≥0.5 wt % of hydrocarbon and ≥4.0 wt. parts/million of mercaptan, based on the weight of the first mixture; and (b) exposing the first mixture temperature ≥of 1.20×103° C in the first zone at the pyrolysis conditions to convert ,at least, a portion of the hydrocarbon and ≥90.0 wt % of mercaptan contained in the first mixture, based on the weight of mercaptan in the first mixture to obtain the second mixture that includes ≥1.0 wt % C2 of unsaturated hydrocarbons, ≤20.0 wt % COx, wherein x is 1 or 2 and ≤1.0 wt.parts / million of thiophene, based on the weight of the second mixture. The invention also relates to the method for converting methane and the method for natural gas processing.
EFFECT: invention allows to use fewer steps for removal of the sulfur compounds.
