SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to the field of video encoding technologies, in particular to a method and a device for external prediction. A method for external prediction is proposed. The method contains a stage, at which a bit stream is syntactically analyzed to obtain information of movement of an image block to be processed. Next, according to the method, movement for the image block to be processed is compensated based on movement information to obtain a prediction block of the image block to be processed, in which the prediction block of the image block to be processed contains a value of prediction of a target sample. Weighing for one or several restored values of one or several reference samples and values of prediction of the target sample are calculated to update values of prediction of the target sample, in which the target sample has a set relation of a spatial position to the target sample.

EFFECT: increase in the efficiency of prediction due to elimination of time redundancy and spatial redundancy in a video.
