SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means of encoding and decoding video data. Motion information output mode is selected from a plurality of motion information outputting modes to determine motion information for the current block of the current image, wherein motion information indicates movement of current unit relative to reference video data. Each motion information output mode from said set comprises: selecting one or more motion candidate vectors to provide initial motion information relative to the reference image; and use of optimization process to update initial motion information, wherein the optimization process is the same for each of the motion information outputting modes. At that, the optimization process comprises performing motion search for the first set of reference data of the reference image, using the candidate motion vector as a starting point.
EFFECT: technical result is to improve the efficiency of encoding video data.
