FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: projection of the front borders of the orbit contents is measured by performing skull spiral computed tomography. Tomography is performed with a cut thickness of max. 1 mm, sections in the axial plane are obtained. Then, using the tools of RadiAnt DICOM Viewer software to build a straight line through the tops of the styloid processes (processus styloideus), in a section with the maximum projection of the front borders of the eye socket contents - eyeball cornea, or locomotor stump, or eye cosmetic prosthesis, a perpendicular to this line is plotted separately for each side through the maximum point of the front border projection. The distance between this point and the previously constructed straight line is measured. The difference between the values obtained for the right and left sides is the value of displacement of the right and left front borders of the corresponding structure - eyeball, or locomotor stump, or eye cosmetic prosthesis relative to each other in the axial plane.
EFFECT: method provides objective, accurate, reliable values of projection of front borders of eyeballs, locomotor stump or eye cosmetic prosthesis and the magnitude of their displacement in the axial plane, regardless of the condition of the orbital walls and bones of the middle face area, and regardless of the laying of the head during computer tomography.
