FIELD: machine engineering.
SUBSTANCE: compressor comprises a pair of opposed pistons 42, 44 disposed in the housing 41 and bounding the compression chamber 43. The electromagnetic actuator 20 drives the reciprocating pistons 42, 44 in the housing together with a power storage device. Force accumulators store the force during the first reciprocating motion, slowing the pistons 42, 44, and apply force in the subsequent reciprocating motion, thereby accelerating the pistons. In one embodiment, the two electromagnetic actuators drive the compression pistons. In another embodiment, one electromagnetic actuator drives the compression pistons.
EFFECT: inertial energy inherent to the node during the first stroke is stored, transferring this stored energy to the node during the subsequent stroke, thereby retaining the energy present in the piston/piston rod assemblies during the reciprocating motion.
