FIELD: powder metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to powder metallurgy, in particular to a cutting tool containing a base of cemented carbide and coating applied to it. The base of cemented carbide contains WC, a cobalt binding phase, and a gamma-phase and has a surface zone enriched with the binding phase and depleted in the gamma-phase with thickness from 14 to 26 mcm. Cemented carbide contains an evenly distributed gamma-phase and reduced number of abnormal WC grains. Coating contains a layer of α-Al2O3, a layer of TiCN, and a binding layer located between the layer of TiCN and the layer of α-Al2O3. The layer of α-Al2O3 has a texture coefficient TC (0012) ≥7.2 measured by an X-ray diffraction method using CuKα radiation and a scanning angle θ-2θ.
EFFECT: increase in resistance to plastic deformation is ensured, while maintaining impact strength.
