FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a process for the preparation of 4,4-dimethyl-1,3-dioxane (DMD) from isobutylene and formaldehyde by condensing isobutylene with an aqueous solution of formaldehyde in the presence of phosphoric acid at elevated temperature and pressure in the presence of carbon nanotubes having a pore diameter of 7- 11 E content of which is maintained in an amount of 3.5-5 wt % of the reaction mass, and subsequent isolation of DMD from the reaction mass.
EFFECT: increasing the selectivity of DMD formation by reducing the amount of high-boiling by-products produced, including hydrogenated pyrans.
