FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of basic organic and petrochemical synthesis, namely to the process for the preparation of 4,4-dimethyl-1,3-dioxane (DMD) from isobutylene and formaldehyde by means of condensing isobutylene with the aqueous solution of formaldehyde in the presence of phosphoric acid at elevated temperature and pressure and subsequent isolation of DMD from the reaction mass, where the condensation is carried out in the presence of a porous polyphenylenephthalide (1), the content of which is maintained in the amount of 3.5–5 wt% of the reaction mass. (1).
EFFECT: increased selectivity of DMD formation by means of reducing the amount of the produced high-boiling by-products, including the hydrogenated pyrans.
