FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention discloses an additive composition for controlling and inhibiting the polymerization of aromatic vinyl monomers comprising styrene which comprises: (a) one or more of nitroxide compounds; and characterized in that mentioned composition further comprises one or more of (b) amines. This amine is an aliphatic tertiary amine. The aliphatic tertiary amine is selected from the group consisting of a hydroxyalkyl tertiary amine, an ethylene oxide treated amine, an amine treated with propylene oxide and a tertiary alkylamine or a combination thereof. The composition does not contain an amine selected from the group consisting of phenylenediamine, ethylenediamine (EDA), tetraethylenepentamine, dipropylamine and diethanolamine. Also, an additive composition and a composition for controlling and inhibiting the polymerization of aromatic vinyl monomers comprising styrene are disclosed. Additionally, a method for controlling and inhibiting, a method for using an additive composition and a method for preparing an additive composition are disclosed.
EFFECT: creation of an effective additive for the control and inhibition of the polymerization of aromatic vinyl monomers including styrene, which does not contain aromatic nitroxide compounds.
