SUBSTANCE: method includes the direct determination of the respiration rate of agricultural and horticultural products and the regulation of the oxygen content, carbon dioxide content and/or nitrogen content in the room in which the respiration intensity is determined. Respiration is determined periodically, in each case for a certain time, and the room is isolated from external influences during the definition of respiration, and has the tightness of less than 0.2 cm2 per 100 m3. The invention also relates to equipment for implementing the method and to the closed room equipped with such equipment.
