SUBSTANCE: coating for the medical device comprises a first layer comprising polyvinylpyrrolidone, derivatized with a photoreactive benzophenone group; and a first cross-linking agent comprising at least two photoreactive groups; second layer disposed on the first layer comprising polyvinylpyrrolidone derivatized with a photoreactive benzophenone group; second cross-linking agent comprising at least two photoreactive groups; and a polymer comprising a polyacrylamide, the polymer being derivatized with at least one photoreactive group; and wherein the first and second cross-linking means comprising at least two photoreaction groups have the formula Photo1-LG-Photo2, where Photo1 and Photo2 independently represent a photo-reactive benzophenone group, and LG is a cross-linking group containing at least one silicon atom or at least one phosphorus atom; wherein there is a covalent bond between at least one photoreactive group and a crosslinking group, wherein the covalent bond between the at least one photoreactive group and the crosslinking group is interrupted by at least one heteroatom selected from the group consisting of oxygen, nitrogen or sulfur.
