FIELD: engine devices and pumps.
SUBSTANCE: exhaust gas controlling device for the internal combustion engine (1) comprises an adding mechanism (200), a catalyst (41), and an electronic control unit (80). Adding mechanism (200) is adapted to add an aqueous urea solution to exhaust gas of the internal combustion engine. Catalyst (41) is adapted to adsorb ammonia generated from the aqueous urea solution and to remove nitrogen oxides by using ammonia adsorbed on the catalyst (41). Electronic control unit (80) control is made with possibility of setting target values of adsorption of ammonia for ammonia adsorbed on the catalyst (41). Electronic control unit (80) controls the mechanism (200) of additive injection so that the amount of the aqueous urea solution, added to exhaust gas, becomes the added amount calculated on the basis of adsorption target value. Electronic control unit (80) is configured to perform the initialization process to reduce the amount of ammonia adsorbed on the catalyst (41) to "0" in case where the total amount of NS nitrogen oxides, entering the catalyst, is equal to or greater than a predetermined value.
EFFECT: elimination of error between the actual value of ammonia adsorption and the target value of adsorption.
