FIELD: measuring equipment.

SUBSTANCE: device for determining the position of the first mechanical element and the second mechanical element relative to each other comprises a first measuring module mounted on the first mechanical element and a second measuring module mounted on the second mechanical element and also a result processing unit. The first measuring module is equipped with means for forming a light beam. The second measuring module comprises a control surface for dispersing the light incident on the control surface, a camera, and means for displaying the control surface onto the camera directed toward the control surface facing the first measuring module. In addition, the control surface faces the first measuring module if both measuring modules are located on the respective mechanical elements so that a light beam is incident on them. The result processing unit is configured so that based on the graphics data transferred by the camera, it is possible to determine the point of incidence of the light beam on the control surface, sent from the first measuring module, and based on this to determine the position of the first mechanical element and the second mechanical element relative to each other.

EFFECT: increased accuracy in determining the position of the two mechanical elements relative to each other.
