FIELD: engines and pumps.
SUBSTANCE: engine system (5) contains the engine (20) with direct injection and the electronic controller (40). The engine (20) comprises a number of cylinders (11, 12, 13), each of which comprises a combustion chamber (30), each of which is protruded with a nozzle tip portion of the fuel injector (60). The tip of the fuel injector is coated with a catalytic material. The controller (40) is configured to control the operation of the engine (20) in the heating operation mode, if the tip portion of the fuel injector (60) is to be heated. By heating the nozzle portion of the fuel injector (60), the deposit is removed, which would otherwise accumulate on it. Various methods for heating the tip of the fuel injector (60) are proposed, comprising the steps of providing the engine (20) with a reduced number of cylinders (11, 12, 13) and changing one or both of the setting of the fuel injection timing and the amount of fuel injected and setting the ignition timing to increase the combustion temperature.
EFFECT: creation of a system of a direct injection engine and a method of operating such an engine system that provides for the efficient use of such a catalytic material for all workloads.
