FIELD: engine devices and pumps.
SUBSTANCE: methods and systems for passive recovery of a particulate filter attached to a gasoline engine are proposed. During the vehicle deceleration conditions, the engine is driven on a leaner mixture than the stoichiometry during two consecutive depleted phases, including the initial longer and poorer phases, followed by a shorter and less poor phase.
EFFECT: through the passive restoration of the filter using the periodic depleted engine operation, the engine performance can be improved.
