FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method of polymerizing a polymer containing monomeric units produced from a styrene monomer and a 1,3-butadiene monomer is disclosed. The method comprises the polymerization of the monomer units in the presence of n-butyl lithium, 3,7-dimethyl-3-octylate of potassium and the polar agent of structure I. The polymer contains block styrene with more than 4 consecutive styrene units, from about 40 to about 70 weight percent of the total styrene content in the polymer, vinyl from 25 to 80 wt % of the total polymerized 1,3-diene, styrene from 20 to 75 wt % of the total weight of the polymer. The polymer has a molecular weight distribution equal to or less than 1.5, a weight-average molecular weight greater than or equal to 250,000 g/mol (I).
EFFECT: high yield of a polymer with a narrow molecular weight distribution.
