FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: activating washing fluid is provided when processing a substrate, comprising the first component comprising a dispersion of divalent or trivalent metal phosphate particles having an average particle size of not more than 10 mcm and the second component comprising the first and the second copolymers. The first copolymer is produced by polymerizing ethylene oxide, propylene oxide, or combinations thereof, wherein one end of the first copolymer is terminated with an amine group, a hydroxyl group, or an alkyl group. The second copolymer is produced by polymerizing styrene and a second monomer containing, at least, one carboxyl group, an anhydride group, or combinations thereof. The second monomer is present in the amount of less than 50 wt %, based on the total weight of the second component. Also, methods for processing a substrate with an activating washing fluid and the substrates processed with an activating washing fluid are also provided.

EFFECT: production of an activating fluid in the form of a stable dispersion that promotes the production of a phosphate layer, which provides corrosion resistance or enhances the adhesion of subsequently applied coatings.
