FIELD: construction.
SUBSTANCE: around a pipe, one or more pre-formed heat-shrinkable metal rings (12) are arranged. After the shrinkage of the rings, one or more electrical connections (14) are attached to said one or each metal ring to allow electrical current to flow between the pipeline and one or more sacrificial anodes. A coating is applied around the pipeline, and the pipeline is wound on a drum. The pipeline is delivered to the offshore installation site on a pipe-laying vessel and unwound, at least one sacrificial anode is connected to electrical connectors, and the pipeline is laid under water.
EFFECT: cathodic pipeline protection is ensured without the need to weld a metal ring on the pipeline, the ring is more compliant to any impact on the pipe, in particular bending, compared to couplings or other types of long sections.
