FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing N-alkyl-O-aryl carbamates of the general formula I 
, where R is aryl groups and R1 - alkyl groups of a normal or branched structure with the number of carbon atoms from 1 to 4. The method consists in reacting phenols with dialkyl urea of the general formula II 
at a temperature of 130-180°C by bubbling through a reaction mixture of hydrogen chloride, which is both a process catalyst and an acceptor of the released alkylamine.
EFFECT: environmental safety and preservation of a satisfactory yield and purity of the product produced.
