FIELD: pharmacology.
SUBSTANCE: application of a composition comprising eicosapentaenoic acid in an amount of 1 to 3000 mg/100 ml and/or docosapentaenoic acid in an amount of more than 50 mg/100 ml, which has a protein content of more than 10 en% and a leucine content of more than 5 wt % of the total protein content is proposed to enhance the effectiveness of the chemotherapeutic agent during cancer treatment due to the fact that the chemotherapeutic agent exhibits greater toxicity to tumour cells and in parallel less toxicity to healthy non-tumour cells, where the chemotherapeutic agent is selected from the group consisting of an alkylating agent and a topoisomerase inhibitor and a suitable method for enhancement of the chemotherapeutic agent efficacy in cancer treatment.
EFFECT: decreased metabolic activity of adenocarcinoma cells after treatment with cisplatin or doxorubicin under the action of eicosapentaenoic or docosapentaenoic acids and increased contractile activity of the muscle of tumour-affected mice under the influence of doxorubicin when the mice were fed the claimed composition.
