FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: computer-implemented method for encoding three-dimensional video data, in which simplified depth encoding is carried out by performing modified intra-frame DC-encoding or modified intra-frame planar encoding of, at least, one encoding element associated with a plurality of pixels and, at least, one depth map and forming a prediction value for the said, at least, one encoding element based on, at least, in part, the pixel values outside the encoding element on the depth map without calculating prediction values for individual pixels within the encoding element. The modified intra-frame DC encoding for generating the prediction value includes performing a sub-sample from the left column of pixels in the left encoding element, or from the top row of pixels in the upper encoding element, or both. At least, one and less than all pixel values from the left column, or, at least, one and less than all pixel values from the top row, or both are used.
EFFECT: reducing the number and complexity of calculations.
