FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method of producing vanadium diboride includes heating a mixture of vanadium oxide V2O3, boron carbide, and carbon nanofibres in a gaseous medium in a carbon crucible. This mixture is prepared in accordance with stoichiometry for the production of vanadium diboride by reaction V2O3+B4C+2C=2VB2+3CO. Heating is carried out at a temperature of 1300-1500°C for 20-30 minutes. The gas medium includes carbon monoxide (II) and nitrogen and is formed when the crucible carbon is oxidized with air oxygen. The volume ratio of CO:N2 is 99.96:0.04.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to simplify the production of vanadium diboride by eliminating the use of argon as a gaseous medium.
