FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: crushed ferromanganese nodules containing (4.5-15.0) wt % of iron (8.0-28.0) wt % of manganese and (7.0-9.0) wt % of silicon with a particle size of 1-100 microns, taken in an amount of 0.001-1.0 wt % are used as the iron-containing catalyst. The catalyst is introduced into the feedstock as a slurry in a liquid hydrocarbon selected from the group consisting of kerosene, diesel, or light oil distillation fraction. Method of producing a catalyst includes the shredding of ferromanganese nodules, the dispersion of the received powder with a faction of 1-100 mcm, washing water or 1-10% solution of hydrochloric acid, and then water and drying at 75-115°C.

EFFECT: catalyst allows to convert a low-grade feedstock into distillate motor fuel and heating oil.
