SUBSTANCE: method for obtaining candidates of motion vector predictor for an encoding unit forming part of the current picture to be encoded, wherein, if possible, a motion vector associated with the unit lower diagonally and to the right of the area in the picture different from the current picture is selected as the candidate of the temporal predictor of the motion vector from among the candidates, wherein the number of candidates of the temporal predictor of the motion vector from among the candidates for the encoding unit is not more than one, and wherein the mentioned area is located in a position corresponding to the encoding unit in a picture different from the current picture.

EFFECT: increasing the efficiency of encoding when compacting the memory of motion vectors.
