SUBSTANCE: method of detecting duplicate video frames in the digital television system is that the brightness value of the pixels neighbouring the video frames are compared, the sequence of the video frames is divided into K groups, each of which contains N neighbouring frames, then each frame is divided into M segments equal to the calculation area for each average brightness value of pixels, then for each j-th group of frames, the mathematical expectation and the standard deviation of the brightness values of each i-th segment of the frame D[i, j] are calculated, for each i, a minimum and maximum value of Dmax[i] and Dmin[i] are chosen, then the M differences of ΔD[i]=Dmax[i]-Dmin[i] are calculated, and if the maximum of ΔD[i] is less than the threshold, the presence of duplicate frames in the video is diagnosed.

EFFECT: increasing the reliability of detecting duplicate frames in a video.
