FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: method includes supply of the charge into furnace, melting, foaming the slag by purging oxygen and injecting carbon-containing material at the end of the melting period and in the oxidizing period, tapping the melt into the ladle. Petroleum coke of the following chemical composition is used as the carbon-containing material, %: carbon 91-99, sulphur not more than 1.5, silicon not more than 0.05, iron not more than 0.05, vanadium not more 0.015, ash content not more than 0.6, humidity not more than 2%, with particle size up to 3 mm, in amount 10-12 kg/t of steel.

EFFECT: invention allows to expand the range of carbon-containing materials for foaming slag.
