FIELD: image processing means.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to dynamic range transformations for images. Image processing device includes a receiver (201) for receiving an image signal comprising an encoded image and a target value of a target display. Reference value of the target display indicates the dynamic range of the target display for which the encoded image is encoded. Dynamic range processor (203) generates the output image by applying a dynamic range conversion to the encoded image in response to the target display target value. Output (205) outputs an output image signal containing the output image to a suitable display. Dynamic range conversion is performed in response to the dynamic range indicator received from the display.
EFFECT: technical result is to provide an opportunity for improved dynamic range transformations, which can adapt to specific characteristics of image rendering.
