FIELD: electrical communication engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to encoding high luminance dynamic range images. A method for decoding an image encoding corresponding to a first dynamic luminance range, into an output image with a second luminance dynamic range, in which the image encoding is encoded pixels of an original image of a high dynamic range scene, the method comprising: tone mapping with a predetermined tone mapping strategy the lumas of pixels in the image encoding onto lumas of pixels in an intermediate image corresponding to the second luminance dynamic range; and modifying the lumas of some of the pixels of the intermediate image by multiplying them with predetermined multiplication factors, which represent the multiplicative correction to be applied to the lumas of said certain pixels of the intermediate image to obtain a tone mapping correction from the first luminance dynamic range to the second luminance dynamic range, resulting in an output image.
EFFECT: technical result is higher efficiency of controlling encoding/decoding of images.
