SUBSTANCE: present invention provides an absorbent article (1), wherein the absorbent article (1) comprises a liquid-permeable top layer (2), a liquid impermeable bottom layer (4) and an absorbent core (3) that is positioned between the top layer (2) and the bottom layer (4). Absorbent article (1) comprises a front part (b1) of the article, an intermediate part (b2) of the article and a back part (b3) of the article that extend in the longitudinal direction of the absorbent article (1). Absorbent article (1) has an outer contour (100) in the form of an hourglass type, wherein the intermediate part (b2) of the article includes a region having a smaller width than any region in the front part (b1) of the article and the back part (b3) of the article, respectively, and here the core (3) extends longitudinally and transversely of the absorbent article (1) and has an outer contour (300) which is asymmetric with respect to the outer contour (100) of the absorbent article (1).
