SUBSTANCE: user equipment (UE) includes a component for providing transmission modes, a selector component and a transmitting component. The transmission mode provisioning component is configured to selectively allocate resources for the inter-machine (D2D) communication in accordance with several transmission modes. This plurality of several transmission modes includes a first transmission mode in which resources used by the UE are specially allocated by the base station or a relay node and a second transmission mode in which the UE independently selects resources from the pool of available resources. The selector component is configured to select the transmission mode. The transmitting component is configured to transmit signals using the frequency resources selected according to the selected transmission mode.
