FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: infiltrative anesthesia of the pterygium in the sulcus projection with an anesthetic and adrenaline solution, diathermy of the conjunctival vessels in the area of the pterygium base. The pterygium head and the underlying pathologically altered layers of the cornea are cut off, not more than 1 mm beyind the sulcus. The pterygium head with the underlying pathologically altered layer of the cornea is incised without removal of the pterygium body. Then, the pharmaceutical composition "Mitomycin-O" is applied for 2 minutes on the "bare" cornea and the conjunctival diathermy region without grasping the sulcus. After that, the composition is washed off with a balanced saline solution and the conjunctiva near the sulcus is pressed against the sclera by massage movements.
EFFECT: pathogenetically justified, local, time-dosed antimetabolite action, a higher cosmetic effect due to minimal seamless surgical trauma to the eye.
