FIELD: instrument engineering.
SUBSTANCE: in rotary cutting tool (58), used for milling operations, reversible indexable cutting insert (20) is detachably fixed to housing (60). Cutting insert (20) has two opposite end faces (22), connected by continuous peripheral surface (24), including three side surfaces (26), alternating with three angled surfaces (28). Side (26) and corner (28) surfaces intersect with end faces (22) on side (40) and corner (42) edges respectively, wherein each side edge (40) has large cutting edge (44), and each corner edge (42) has angular (46) and smaller (48) cutting edges. Each large (44) and smaller (48) cutting edge tilts from first (E1) and second (E2) end points respectively by its mutually corresponding angular cutting edge (46) to median plane (M). First imaginary straight line (L1), continuing perpendicular to median plane (M) and intersecting any of corner cutting edges (46) at any point along its length with the exception of the second end point, passes through middle plane (M) inside boundary line (Lb) of the plate.
EFFECT: it is possible to create a reversible cutting insert and a cutting tool for milling rectangular ledges and inclined milling.
