FIELD: technological processes.

SUBSTANCE: method for stabilizing a nanoparticle preparation comprises the steps of: a) purifying the composition to obtain a purified composition, wherein the purified composition contains at least one nanoparticle contained in the liquid carrier, where the nanoparticle contains a core comprising a paramagnetic metal that is iron and a sheath attached to the core, wherein the sheath comprises a plurality of ligands comprising a phosphate, a phosphonate or a combination thereof and comprising a polyethylene glycol (PEG) functional group; b) adding a certain amount of a plurality of ligands to the purified composition to obtain a preparation, wherein at least a portion of the added amount of ligands remains unattached to the core, wherein the ligands of the sheath and the ligands added to the purified composition are structurally identical; and c) sterilizing the preparation by autoclaving.
