FIELD: measurement.

SUBSTANCE: using: for ultrasonic (US) non-destructive testing, in particular, for metal products. Summary of the invention consists in the fact that one select several probing planes intersecting one line. In each of the planes, no less than three mutually directed pairs of electroacoustic transducers (EATs) are mounted on opposite surfaces of the article. Scan products with all pairs of EAT, detecting defects by the shadow method. Together they analyse the results of all scans, calculate the size, position of the defect in the product and build its spatial image.

EFFECT: technical result: providing the ability to detect and assess the size, depth of the defect, and also to construct its image in sheets, pipes, and so forth products with any pre-determined accuracy.
