SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method and an apparatus for determining an electrolyte composition based on differential thermal measurements for controlling an aluminum electrolysis process. Device consists of a metal block, including a reference and a container for sampling an electrolyte, temperature sensors, immersed in the reference and in the sample of the electrolyte, the registration system, data processing and visualization of the results. Method involves immersing a metal block in an electrolyte, filling the container with electrolyte melt, extraction and cooling of a metal block with a filled capacity above the crust on the surface of the molten electrolyte, construction and analysis of differential-thermal curves, as a result of which the liquidus temperature is determined, overheating of electrolyte, as well as the phase and component composition of solid electrolyte samples taking into account all the crystallizing phases, the content of which in the sample of the electrolyte is not less than 3 mass%, and αmodification of aluminum oxide is used as a reference.
EFFECT: increase in the accuracy of determination of the electrolyte composition is provided.
