CONTROLLED DEFORMATION CATHETER Russian patent published in 2018 - IPC A61M25/00

Abstract RU 2652747 C2

FIELD: medical equipment.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medical equipment, specifically to a controlled deformation catheter and, in particular, to a catheter adapted to change the cross-section of the internal lumen in order to allow passage through it of other catheters, expanders and/or instruments of various types, to ensure the deformation of said catheter for insertion of another catheter, such as a guiding catheter. Catheter (4) comprises catheter body (8), which extends from proximal end (12) to distal end (16), in longitudinal direction (X-X), Said catheter body (8) comprises core (24) embedded inside flexible outer covering layer (28), and being a hollow tubular body which defines at least one lumen (20). Core (24) comprises longitudinal element (32) with a plurality of pairs of ribs (40) which extend inside said outer covering layer (28). Said ribs (40) extend from attachment end (44), at which they connect to each other, to free end (48), opposite attachment end (44). Line joining attachment ends (44) of pairs of ribs (40) defines dorsal side (36) of catheter body (8). Free ends (48) of ribs (40) coupled in the same pairs are separate from each other, identifying at least one discontinuity (52) of said ribs (40). Said discontinuity (52) is positioned on ventral side (56), opposite said dorsal side (36). First plane (P) is defined perpendicular to longitudinal element (32) and passes through attachment end (44) of rib (40), and second plane (Q) is defined passing through free end (48) and through attachment end (44) of same rib (40), said planes (P, Q) are inclined to each other so as to form acute angle (A) on the side of proximal end (12) or of distal end (16).

EFFECT: invention preserves the possibility of movement along the axis (when pushing) and rotational motion with relative maximum flexibility and at the same time, has the ability to adapt at least to a partial change in diameter under the pressure of other catheters or expanders passing through the lumen, or the ability to at least partially compress, in order to pass other catheters through the lumen, for example nutrient catheters.
