FIELD: medical equipment.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to input devices for insertion of a catheter or other tubular medical device into a patient's body. According to a first embodiment, an input device for insertion of a cannula containing a cannula into a patient's body comprises a body, a needle, distal from the housing, a guide wire comprising a distal end initially located in the needle lumen, and an extension assembly, configured to selectively extend the distal end of the guidewire from a distal needle hole and selectively extend the catheter and catheter cannula above the needle. At least a portion of the catheter is initially positioned above the needle such that the catheter cannula is substantially outside the body. Input device is configured to control user using one hand. Extension unit is configured to control without releasing input device from said one hand. Extension assembly comprises a portion configured to insert a catheter cannula for engagement with the catheter. According to a second embodiment, an input device for insertion of the catheter comprises a guidewire extension assembly and a catheter extension assembly. Wire guide extending assembly includes a guide wire lever configured to selectively extend the distal end of the guidewire from the distal end of the needle. Catheter extension assembly is configured to selectively extend the catheter above the needle. Catheter extension assembly and the guidewire extension assembly are configured to be controlled by the user using one hand without releasing the input device from said one arm. Catheter extension assembly closes the distal end of the needle after separating the catheter from the catheter extension assembly. Catheter extension assembly comprises a portion configured to insert a catheter into the catheter for engagement with the catheter.
EFFECT: inventions are combined in one device introduction of a needle, extension of a wire guide, insertion of a catheter and protection of a needle.
