SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a process for the preparation of butadiene homopolymers which comprises the polymerisation of 1,3-butadiene in the presence of a catalytic system comprising: (a) at least one bis-imino-pyridine cobalt complex having the general formula (I):

in which: R2 and R3 are the same and are selected from unbranched or branched C1-C20 alkyl groups; R1 and R4 are different and are selected from optionally substituted C3-C30 cycloalkyl groups, optionally substituted aryl groups, arylalkyl groups; R5, R6 and R7 are the same and represent a hydrogen atom; X1 X2 are the same and represent a halogen atom, such as chlorine, bromine, iodine; (b) at least one cocatalyst selected from organic oxygen-containing compounds (b2), selected from alumoxanes having the general formula (III):

in which R10, R11 and R12 are the same or different and represent a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom such as chlorine, bromine, iodine, fluorine; or they are selected from unbranched or branched C1-C20 alkyl groups, C3-C30 cycloalkyl groups, aryl groups, and these groups are optionally substituted with one or more silicon or germanium atoms; and p is an integer ranging from 0 to 1000.
EFFECT: technical result is the creation of a new method for the preparation of butadiene homopolymers with a high content of 1,4-cis units ≥ 97%.
