SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a process for the preparation of butadiene homopolymers which comprises the polymerisation of 1,3-butadiene in the presence of a catalytic system comprising: (a) at least one bis-imino-pyridine cobalt complex having the general formula (I):

in which: R₂ and R₃ are the same and are selected from unbranched or branched C₁-C₂₀ alkyl groups; R₁ and R₄ are different and are selected from optionally substituted C₃-C₃₀ cycloalkyl groups, optionally substituted aryl groups, arylalkyl groups; R₅, R₆ and R₇ are the same and represent a hydrogen atom; X₁ X₂ are the same and represent a halogen atom, such as chlorine, bromine, iodine; (b) at least one cocatalyst selected from organic oxygen-containing compounds (b₂), selected from alumoxanes having the general formula (III):
