FIELD: engines and pumps.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in fuel management systems for internal combustion engines (ICE). Disclosed is a method for identifying the type of fuel or a fuel mixture consisting of a plurality of fuel types based on a change in oxygen sensor readings to ensure operation of an internal combustion engine on different types of fuel or fuel mixtures. ICE comprises combustion chamber 2 having first inlet 10 communicating with first intake conduit 11 of inlet pipe, wherein first fuel injector 12 is located in first inlet conduit 11, and second inlet 20 communicating with second inlet conduit 21 of the inlet pipe, wherein second fuel injector 22 is located in second inlet conduit 21. When the internal combustion engine is operating in normal mode, fuel is injected into the internal combustion engine in a predetermined amount, which is composed of a first quantity injected through the first injector, and a second quantity injected through the second injector. According to the invention, at the first stage, the first fuel injector is left closed, and at the second stage, the first fuel injector is reopened and fuel is supplied to the combustion chamber through the first inlet in a first test amount and through the second inlet in the second test amount, wherein the first and second test fuel quantities making up the predetermined fuel quantity.
EFFECT: reducing toxicity and optimisation of ICE power performance when using fuels with a different composition.
