SUBSTANCE: according to proposed methods, fuel is injected directly into combustion chamber at first mode of operation at intake stroke and at second mode of operation at compression stroke and is ignited, and exhaust gases formed at combustion of fuel are delivered into catalyst converter, and at second mode of operation, fuel is injected additionally after combustion, and temperature of exhaust gases in catalyst converter in or after the converter is measured, and result is compared with threshold value. Invention provides description of design of internal combustion engine implementing proposed method of diagnosing and control unit for diagnosing condition of catalyst converter.
EFFECT: possibility of revealing degree of ageing of catalyst.
