SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to medical equipment, specifically to means of local tracking and obtaining images of an object in minimally invasive surgery. Tracking and point-of-view-based imaging device is configured for deriving, in real-time, volumetric data of an ultrasound image for the distal tip of an elongated instrument and surrounding anatomy, the device comprising a host system comprising a position and orientation tracking device configured to derive a position and a direction from a location on the distal tip of an elongated tool, local-view forming software including a coordinate system transformation module that is configured to perform coordinate system transformation in accordance with the derived position and the derived direction and configured to form, from a location and on the basis of the transformation result, a local view associated with the orientation of the distal tip about an axis in the derived direction and which moves together with said tip, and a user control including an initialisation control of the orientation of the local view. Local-view forming software is configured to customise the transformation according to the user-induced manipulation of the local view orientation initialisation control by aligning the orientation about the axis in the direction with feedback from the means of controlling the direction of movement of the elongated tool. Device is provided with a machine-readable medium.
