SUBSTANCE: invention relates to hybrid vehicles. Mode change control apparatus for the hybrid vehicle comprises a mode change controller, working so that when the vehicle speed becomes the vehicle speed for switching the mode after starting from the seat in the sequential HEV mode, first engaging clutch switches from disengaged to meshed condition. Power generation by the second electric motor is stopped and the driving mode is forced into the parallel HEV mode. When the temperature rise of the second power generation system including the second electric motor is predicted after starting off in a sequential HEV mode, controller changes the speed of the vehicle to switch the mode to the second vehicle speed. This speed is equal to the vehicle speed corresponding to the engine speed at which a self-sustaining operating mode is allowed.

EFFECT: prevents overheating of the second power generation system.
