FIELD: measuring equipment.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an electrical measuring technique and can be used to determine distances to inhomogeneities and fault locations of extended power transmission lines. Probing voltage pulses are sent to the test line, the reflected signals are received, the sample trace received from the undamaged line is stored. Take off the current trace containing the reflected signals from natural inhomogeneities and inhomogeneities that have arisen when the line is damaged, then subtract it from the sample trace, making a conclusion about the line damage in the presence of difference signals. After receiving the current trace and writing it to the array, you scale the time of this array, for which for each two voltage values corresponding to the adjacent time points, spline interpolation is performed, resulting in an interpolation continuous function. Then, the time scaling factor is input, and the time scaling factor is changed according to one of the known optimization algorithms. For different values of the time scaling factor, new scaled arrays are repeatedly obtained, which are compared with the sample trace until a minimal difference is achieved between them.

EFFECT: reduction in the error in the case of testing long lines.
