FIELD: measuring equipment.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electrical measuring equipment and can be used to determine distances to newly appeared inhomogeneities and points of damage of overhead transmission lines. At the stage of generating the reference trace, probing voltage pulses are sent repeatedly to the tested line, reflected signals are received, averaging is carried out for each point of the reflectogram. After that, reference trace is memorized. Further, for each point of the trace, the mean-square deviation is found, multiplied by a constant selected based on the three sigma rule. An array of threshold values is obtained, and an array of threshold values is recorded. At the stage of current operation, the current trace is taken, then a differential reflectogram is found, each point of which is obtained as a difference in modulus of the value of the current reflectogram and the corresponding value of the reference trace. Each point of the differential reflectogram is compared with the corresponding threshold value from the array of threshold values. Conclusion on damage or presence of inhomogeneity in overhead transmission line is made in case if value in any point of differential trace exceeds corresponding threshold value. Calculation of distance to appeared heterogeneity or point of damage is carried out by number of the first point of differential reflectogram, value in which has exceeded threshold value.
