SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a process for the preparation of a compound mixture (3) as a powder, wherein each X individually denotes hydrogen, a formyl group (-CO-H) or an acetyl group (-CO-CH₃). Said method includes the stages i) and ii). At the stage i), formylating the amine group 5-amino-N¹,N³-bis-(2,3-dihydroxypropyl)-2,4,6-triiodoisophthalamide (compound (4)) using mixed formylacetyl anhydride. At the stage ii) performing a work-up procedure wherein to the product solution obtained in step i), short-chain alcohol as an antisolvent is added.

EFFECT: invention also relates to a process for the preparation of ionforminol (a contrast agent useful for performing X-ray examinations) comprising the step of preparation of compound mixture (3).
